At the Law Offices of Robin T. Wernik in Hazlet, New Jersey, we focus our practice on divorce and other family law matters. However, the firm also accepts cases involving criminal law and workers' compensation.

Family Law

As experienced family law attorneys, we handle divorce, civil unions/domestic partnerships, dissolutions, adoptions, domestic violence, premarital agreements, child custody, wills and estates. View our Family Law Center for more information.

Divorce

When dealing with a divorce, or matters related to a divorce, we encourage our clients to explore the option of settlement and mediation. Too often, the divorce process becomes bitter and contentious. Children may get dragged into the battle and, at the very least, are witnesses to their parents' rancor and dissension. By working out the issues in an open and cooperative forum, you can avoid the contentiousness of the courtroom, the cost of litigation and the potential for damaged family relationships following the divorce. However, when a trial is the only way to resolve the matter correctly, we diligently prepare the case for trial and aggressively represent our client's interests.

Child Custody

A large part of our family law practice involves helping our clients protect their children and families through proper child custody arrangements.

While many custody lawyers can talk about experience in child custody litigation, Robin T. Wernik has successfully prevailed in a nationally recognized child custody case in front of the New Jersey Supreme Court. In 2000, she appeared before the New Jersey Supreme Court in an appeal of a custody and visitation matter for a client who was in a committed relationship with another woman. Part of that commitment involved an agreement to have and raise children together. Robin T. Wernik's client sought visitation of her former partner's children whom she had raised from birth. The court ruled in favor of Ms. Wernik's client and the ruling is considered groundbreaking law for gay and lesbian parents and the rights of "psychological parents." We handle all child custody cases with the same skill, diligence and dedication.

Civil Unions/Domestic Partnerships

We counsel and represent clients who wish to enter into civil unions under New Jersey's civil union laws, which grant same-sex couples some of the legal rights and obligations of marriage. We also help clients dissolve civil unions and domestic partnerships created under New Jersey law.

Criminal Law/Municipal Court

If you have been arrested and charged with a crime or a municipal court offense, an experienced lawyer can ensure that your rights are protected. From the initial traffic stop to the procedures involved in your arrest, our firm will review the evidence and police reports in detail. A criminal conviction can follow you for the rest of your life. If you have been charged with drunk driving (DWI or DUI), assault, drug possession and distribution, or any municipal court matter - don't wait to contact an experienced defense attorney. Our law firm can help you. Having served as a public defender in Neptune Township, our criminal defense lawyer David Salvatore is skilled at meeting the needs of clients facing criminal charges.
